Diet Trap Class

Hello everyone!

Earlier this year I read a book that crystalized just about everything I’ve come to believe about weight loss from working and speaking with hundreds of people over the past 10 years or so.

The one thing I think we can all agree on is that losing weight is hard. Very very hard. There are bunch of different reasons for that and they vary from person to person but it seems like the world is conspiring against us, doesn’t it?

Here is what I believe.

The weight loss model is broken and it’s broken in a number of ways.

The most important one is this:

You do not have to lose weight to be a worthy person.

The book I’m talking about is called The Diet Trap. This is what it says on the back cover.

“Have you tried and failed to lose weight using trendy diets and exercise regimes? You aren’t alone. The problem with most diets is that they don’t target the emotional and psychological reasons that lie at the root of unhealthy eating and physical inactivity. As a result, you might lose weight in the short term, but end up reverting back to harmful habits. In order to create lasting results, you need to change the way you think about food, your life, and yourself.”

I’m really excited about this because we’re going to do something at Castro Valley Fitness that we’ve never done before. You remember Oprah’s Book Club, right? Well, welcome to the Castro Valley Fitness book club.

We are going to read and discuss The Diet Trap and you are invited to join us!

We are going to talk about:

  • The Unworkable Weight Loss Agenda
  • The Myths about weight loss
  • The Fix-Me Trap
  • Your motivations
  • The real reason behind your struggles with food. It’s not the food.
  • Understanding where your thoughts really come from
  • Exploring self-dislike and self-compassion
  • The Pesky White Bear
  • The World’s Worst Motivational Speaker
  • Changing your relationship to your thoughts
  • Avoidance strategies
  • Values
  • Much much more!!

I want to emphasize that this is not going to be group therapy. We’re not therapists here. Our main goal is to get this information out there because, frankly, most people in the multi-billion dollar weight loss and fitness industries don’t want it out there.

They’re very happy making you feel like garbage so that you can perpetuate this horrible and damaging cycle.

Here are the details:

Who is this class for?

Simply put, just about everyone who is tired of the damaging and horrible patterns that a desire for weight loss forces on most people.

When is it?

There are three in-person classes: Saturdays August 3, August 17 and August 31 from 1pm until about 2:15 or so.

What is involved?

In addition to the in-person classes there will be reading and homework assigned for each class, including some pre-homework for the first class.

How long will the homework take?

It shouldn’t take more than 60-90 minutes, but we won’t be going over every single exercise in the book. The more in-depth and seriously you take the book and the more work you put in, above and beyond the base assignments, the more you will get out of it. No surprise there, right?

How much is it?

The class is only $49. That does not include the book which you must purchase prior to the first class. (You will have work to do before the first class.)

Where can I get the book?

Here is the Amazon link: The Diet Trap

There is an excellent audio book version, but I do recommend the print version even if you do get the audio book to make the exercises and references easier to find and understand.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me at Mitch@CastroValleyFitness.com.

We hope to see you there!
